Dikki Dhoka came from a poor and conservative family that believed girls should be married as soon as possible after they turn a certain age. Dikki always dreamed of being a doctor and going to school was one of her biggest dream. Dikki envied the girls form her village that went to Pokhara and India to study.
However when she was 10 her dreams turned to reality when her parents told her that she was going to be admitted to the Jomsom school. “I was away from my parents and from home for the first time and didnt know anybody in the hostel. I felt homesick for the first two months” says Dikki. Things eventually changed for Dikki and she now feels like those at Jomsom hostel have become a part of her family.
Dikki is the eldest child among her siblings and says that she wants to set a good example for her siblings and hopes that they will follow her footsteps.
